mystery vintage handwork tool

123This is from Britain from a group of tools from  the 1800’s

It was sold with  wooden needles, bone crochet hooks & 2 pointy small tools-stilettos

Have no idea what this could be..  The etchings are darkened with a reddish

color &  2 vaguely resemble hearts or a squid

It would be the perfect size to hold a variety of different colored threads

but  that is only speculation on this mystery vintage tool- probably made for

his sweetheart

Ha Ha! uh thanks but nope Think I’ll keep it around
Someone on Ravelry said they had seen a similar
set sewn to a fancy corset as decoration
      Who would have thought…?…!!

This might be way off base, but the first thing that comes to mind for me is bobbin lace making or tatting. I was a little girl the last time I saw it done, but this evokes memories of same, so perhaps it’s related? Or perhaps I’m just remembering seeing bobbins that looked like that….Anyway, just a thought. ^_^

Thanks there have been a lot of speculations on the Ravelry list as to what function these possibly could have served Among the contenders- bobbin lace , corset decor, floss or thread sorters I will look up and list all the thoughts Guess we may never know but someone put some work into these as they are really really pretty
